Instead of announcing the 12th season of the innovative Show Me the Money, Mnet’s Hip Hop Instagram announced RAP:PUBLIC on TVING. Since there is very little information to gather from the announcement, LiFTED has decided to speculate on what could happen on RAP:PUBLIC, which could be a combination of Survivor, Squid Games, and a Hip Hop reality show.
Show Me the Money was a great concept that has run its course. There have been so many copies of it in various countries [cough*TheRapofChina*cough], that the same rapper/producer combo is getting stale. So the announcement of RAP:PUBLIC could be a major step forward for reality shows. Instead of only rapping, they have to dance and then freeze for Red Light, Green Light, or beatbox the whole time they are cutting out the shapes of the sugar honeycombs.
Another cool way of doing a Hip Hop reality show would be to make rappers come up with their own game plan to blow up. They have to go on the streets and hand out CDs of their music, or put posters up on walls with a show they are doing and get people to come. Maybe they have to go into a music studio with a producer who is giving them bad beats and keep pushing them until they find something they can rap over.
Whatever RAP:PUBLIC ends up being, adding some fresh ideas will be welcomed into a market that is already saturated with cookie-cutter shows.
Check out the video for RAP:PUBLIC below.
RAP:PUBLIC invites you to a hip-hop survival world you have never seen before. It’s a real hip-hop survival show where the participants compete and survive using rap as their weapon. The rappers form their own 'blocks' and compete as a team to survive in a society disconnected from the outside world. In this society where cooperation and competition coexist, they can only decide their fate through games that use rap. The final winning block will be given 300,000 dollars as a prize and become the first owner of RAP:PUBLIC.
