Welcome to Songs We Would Like To Apologise To, where we look back on the songs released that month and decide which we would like to apologize to as we were either too harsh to them or too kind.
Okay but how is it almost June already? How is May behind us I don’t get it what the hell? Where is time going I am really not sure. Anyway this month has been quite stuffed with comebacks and due to Una and I both working reviews have become a bit less but we still try to cover as much as we can. I hope you all are still enjoying our content! Well, I have to say songs that have kept me company throughout this past month was ENHYPEN‘s lore album, which surprises me but the songs are just way too good on this one, The Baekho and BIGONE collab, and aespa‘s latest album. Well, there are actually two songs I’d like to issue an apology to so let’s get into it.
First of all, I really liked this song on release but as time went on it really grew on me more and I am glad to see that Una chose the same song. Yep It’s he tripleS song called Girls Never Die. What a bop and since I have been driving a bunch I can say it hits extra hard in the car. This song is such a vibe and it has grown on me so much. I would like to apologize to it for not saying I am obsessed with it sooner.
As for the second song I have to look at YOUNITE’s Geekin because I thought the song was quirky at first it has absolutely lost me. I am so sorry but this is always an instant skip for me whenever it comes on and I just can’t get through the first few opening lines. YOUNITE I hope you know I like your music and b-sides especially but this title track is just not for me. I tried I really did.
And with that our May roundup comes to an end. SHINee month is over and we are halfway through the year. Where did 2024 go? I am not sure I have heard my song of the year yet to be frank but maybe summer will deliver!
I’ve realised just how little new k-pop I’ve been actually listening to this month once I saw this post has to be written (where did May go by the way?). ZB1’s Feel The Pop, aespa’s Supernova, and Kyungsoo’s latest album have been the stand-outs of this month for me, although SEVENTEEN dropping music videos for their unit songs counts as a May highlight as well – whoever was in charge of directing Spell deserves a raise of 3 billion dollars, thank you. I can also feel NewJeans’ How Sweet slowly worming its way into my brain so don’t be surprised if you see it in the June apology post once I get obsessed with it apparently. I don’t have a proper song to apologize to as I’ve pretty much enjoyed all the small and big releases this month but I will take this opportunity to talk about the song I didn’t originally review and a b-side I didn’t appreciate enough.
I didn’t originally review Girls Never Die by tripleS and it took me quite a while to take some time to listen to this album which is the main reason I’m apologizing to it this month – I should’ve listened to it way sooner! I’m glad they got a music show win for this song because it’s so good, melodic, and overall uplifting with its empowering message. I especially love the Let me dream even bigger now / These pains and trials make a better me part because wow, I needed to hear that this year honestly. The song also grew on me even more while watching their music show performances and I’m sad I didn’t give it a chance immediately, sorry about that girls, and good luck with your future full or sub-unit activities.
I’ve been enjoying IVE’s late April title track HEYA and I have to say I didn’t immediately understand why people were talking so much about the b-side Accendio. It’s a song I liked on the first listen but I simply felt more drawn to HEYA and its old-school k-pop atmosphere. However, I’m glad IVE decided to give us a music video for the song and to follow up their promotions with Accendio because wow, it has grown so much on me and I really love it now. IVE are great performers and I always end up loving their songs even more while watching their music show performances and Accendio is another proof of that. I’ve also loved their whole styling this era – so pretty. Sorry for not understanding what a good song this was immediately my girls!
June is going to be an interesting month – it’s my birthday month and I’m seeing Troye Sivan in 2 weeks which I couldn’t be more excited about – what better way to celebrate a birthday and pride month? Hoping for some great music as well and I’m ready for summery tracks to come our way, no angst, please!
