After freeing herself from YG Lisa returns with her first single Rockstar.
I had for some reason thought this song would come out a day before it did but that just had me more hyped. I can’t believe we are finally getting new BLACKPINK solo content it has been I think 3 years since Lisa’s debut as a solo artist? YG kind of just wastes their talent and while I am pretty sure BP will not make a group comeback any time soon I will take any solo content we can get. I am glad Lisa is the first to make a comeback and under a new label. The concept photos had me living to be honest because that melanin? Yes give us more thank you! Let’s review.
Rockstar is pretty much what I was expecting from a Lisa release, it has rap, it has some vocals but most of all it is catchy. I also always think she makes it work speaking of herself in the third person. Like yes Lisa teach me Japanese! It is also so nice to see that she filmed this in her homeland and how much work probably went into this. I am not gonna say that this is the most unique or amazing song but it works for Lisa and Rockstar is full of attitude and is basically hard carried by Lisa performing it. I like the choreography for it as well and I will say that the post-chorus is probably my favorite part of the song. Rockstar is pretty much going to be the new Money for me – inescapable and it will grow on me a lot more.
The single album just consists of other versions of the song and I have to say the extended version of Rockstar goes pretty hard! Glad to see Lisa back and can’t wait to see what the future has in store for her.
LISA is back! BLACKPINK girls are promising us some great time ahead and I was absolutely ready for some new music to drop. LISA already had us hyped simply with those concept photos because she’s never looked better and seems to be positively glowing during this new period of her career. It’s nice seeing artists use their creative freedom finally and I’m sure LISA will be delivering some visually stunning concepts in the future as well. Now, let’s get into Rockstar and review it!
I’ll preface this by saying that LISA’s music isn’t really my style but I appreciate her artistry and the energy she brings every time. Rockstar is similar in that aspect – whatever she says, I’ll believe her because she has so much charm and attitude that it makes you want to root for her immediately. Rockstar has some really catchy parts that I really enjoy – especially when talking about the instrumental itself – and a solid hook to make you want to get up and dance alongside her. She combines rap, vocals, and pure-instrumental moments into one in Rockstar and I think it works well. It’s probably my favourite release of hers so far – it offers the bad-ass attitude but in a more laid-back way which I’m here for. I’m also absolutely loving the music video – so many details, a stunning colour palette, and a fantastic setting, what’s not to love? LISA also looks amazing and really suits this kind of energy and sound.
This will be a grower for me as well!
