Red Velvet Make A Comeback With "Cosmic"

Red Velvet finally return to us with their new album Cosmic and title song of the same name.

Oh the queens are back to save my summer methinks! I have been so incredibly excited for this comeback it has been a moment too long since we saw this veteran group. It is crazy to me what a stable RV is on my playlist and how little comebacks they get but at least we still have such a long running K-POP group around they are really holding down the 3rd gen of girl groups. That being said I really hate how I excited I was about this comeback but SM had to go a test AI on their concept photos…like why? Man I hate AI and what it is doing to art. Anyway, the last midsummer inspired teasers for Cosmic were an absolute highlight to me. Let’s review

Cosmic is exactly what I needed today, even though Cosmic is much more mellow than I expected it to be. It seems not even Red Velvet are safe from current trends but still Cosmic feels very melodic and also very, very RV. We have a bit of a mysterious element and feel to it, while we get a solid pop song that has moments that remind me of ABBA songs, and vocals for days. The harmonies in Cosmic are insane, however I can’t help but think this would have fit the fall or spring season a bit more. RV are usually the ones to give us big and bombastic pop songs during spring but Cosmic feels really tame. That doesn’t mean I don’t love or enjoy the song though. It’s a good song and the music video for it is just as stunning!

The mini album follows the mood Cosmic sets for it and it is a really solid record. RV bring their signature sounds and I am bound to find a new favorite b-side, currently I really enjoy Sunflower, just because of the extra punch it has to it and how it feels like Red Velvet summer songs. But I also really like Bubble, it’s more of a mellower song but the vocals and the groove are here and it is just so much fun. The futuristic feel to it is also very nice. Overall, RV will never miss in this house, there isn’t a concept or song they can’t pull off and their vocals are unmatched in my opinion. I am glad we got this during June and I get to enjoy it for the rest of the year!
