GI-DLE Call Us A Klaxon?!

GI-DLE return with seventh mini album I Sway and title song Klaxon.

(G)I-DLE are back, baby! Their early January release Super Lady has been one of my absolute 2024 favourites and is still on heavy rotation in my household so I was very excited to see what (G)I-DLE would bring us this summer as well! They’ve had such a solid string of titles these past few years and have experimented with their sound and style while still maintaining their own unique vision so it’s always fun to watch them grow and bring something new to the table. Klaxon is definitely a name that had me double-checking but I guess we really are having a great summer with a lot of honks and noise? Sounds like a party to me so let’s review!

From the very beginning, Klaxon is so summery and so light in its melody and atmosphere that it immediately puts you in a good mood. I love when (G)I-DLE go dramatic but they do this upbeat summer energy just as well. Klaxon is just loads of fun with a catchy and easy hook, perfect to worm itself up your brain for the rest of July. This is also one of those times when the music video really compliments the song and brings it to another level – the video really provides us with stunning visuals and even more fun! It reminds me a bit of the early 2010s and the summer songs of that era which were so melodic and energetic. I do have to say that I somehow love the verses even more than the chorus simply because they have such a great groove and make me want to sway around alongside the girls. The group has been putting out a hit after hit and I’m sure that Klaxon will be one of the memorable summer songs of 2024 for many. I’m so excited to see the live performances for this because I think they will be so fun and so cute. The styling of this era is everything! Summer is here and (G)I-DLE are bringing the melody, fun and heat with them for sure.

(G)I-DLE wouldn’t be (G)I-DLE if they didn’t provide us with some stunning b-sides and this new mini album really took the summer era seriously. I’m always a sucker for Minnie-penned songs and this time around she really delivered everything with the stunning, dreamy Bloom. I love this song so much – it’s like a pretty summer fairytale bottled up in a song. What more can one want? However, Neverland and Last Forever are just as beautiful! I really love the atmosphere these b-sides create because they all feel so cohesive and fit so well together. I’d love to see them performed live because I think they will hit even more like that. I’ll definitely be enjoying this mini album this July.
