Lee Chaeyeon Invites Us To Her Showdown

Lee Chaeyeon returns with her third mini album called Showdown and title song Don’t.

I still listen to Chaeyeon’s amazing Knock whenever I need a positive boost of energy so I was very excited to get a summery comeback by her because she rarely ever misses. Chaeyeon is severely underrated as a soloist considering she’s a full package – a great singer, an even better dancer, and an overall fantastic performer with lots of charm and charisma. Her new mini-album promises both laid-back tracks and some upbeat summer vibes so I’m very excited to check it out. It’s raining like crazy where I am this week so maybe Don’t will bring some much-needed warmth into my life. Let’s review!

Don’t is definitely a summer song but a more laid-back, low-key type of it. It’s the kind of track I’d listen to on a warm summer night while I’m looking out the window and relaxing and I really like it. It does have its upbeat moments, such as the bridge which explodes into the final chorus to really get the song going. Don’t is also very catchy, suitable for Chaeyeon’s sweet vocals, and brings a very melodic, late-summer atmosphere into my earphones. The only thing that’s confusing me is who is Charlie and what did I miss regarding this? During the first listen I thought she was saying a Korean word that simply sounded like Charlie in English but turns out no, she’s actually saying call me, Charlie? Is this some remark to Charlie’s Angels or something like that? I will have to investigate but I will say this confused me quite a bit. Either way, I’ve already seen some parts of her showcase today and not only is the styling going to be so good in this era but the choreography is amazing as expected too! A fun little summer song.

The new mini album provides us with some interesting b-sides that definitely suit this summer period. Supernatural continues the sweet, laid-back energy of the title track but Summer Heat really brings the energetic Chaeyeon back to our playlist. This song intrigued me since the teasers for the album as the instrumental would go crazy on Balkan summer weddings honestly and I’m somewhat here for it. Definitely a fun track that I’m sure is fantastic for dancing as well.

This isn’t my favourite Chaeyeon title but it’s definitely something new from her and an enjoyable summer-night track I’ll definitely be going back to. I’m sure it will grow even more on me.
