The Boyz return with their ninth mini album Trigger and title song of the same name.
What do you mean Lina is writing a review for The Boyz? I know I am as shocked as you all probably are. Usually this is Una’s domain and I respectfully take a step back but Una is busy today and having an important test so I decided to take over. Lucky for me I am absolutely vibing with this The Boyz comeback and it feels like it has been 84 years since I really enjoyed a The Boyz comeback so even better that today’s comeback is right up my alley. I wasn’t paying much attention to the promotions leading up to this comeback so the more I was excited to listen to Trigger let’s review.
Okay but we can right off the bat say that Trigger is probably the most melodic, groovy and catchy song (in my opinion) title songs The Boyz had in years. I really enjoy the futuristic sounding take off for the verses and the groove this has. However, it wouldn’t be a The Boyz song without some posing, barking and attitude filled angst and that shows up during the pre-chorus and second part of Trigger‘s chorus. But I really don’t mind it. I really love the melody and vocals during Trigger‘s chorus and the boys sound great. The song is fast paced, catchy and is tickling my brain in absolutely the correct spot that makes me enjoy Trigger a lot. I haven’t had such a good time listening to a The Boyz song in such a long time that I am actually excited about this. Yes! Finally!
Okay so, obviously I hadn’t really heard the highlight medley for the mini or anything but the moment I heard Bite Back I knew this was the EPs best b-side. I don’t think the mini has a bad song but Bite Back is probably just that song for me. The vocals during the pre-chorus and the beat during the chorus are just way too catchy. This is a banger and a half! I am listening! Overall, a really positive comeback for me.
