ITZY Want To Be Gold With An Imaginary Friend

ITZY return as a full group with their album Gold and title tracks Gold and Imaginary Friend.

There is no way I am the only one that has been more than excited for this ITZY comeback. Gold marks the girls finally reuniting with Lia and making a comeback as five. I think ITZY have sadly fallen off when it comes to setting trends and they are chasing their sound a bit but I still believe no one ITZYs the way ITZY ITZY when they ITZY, wow that’s a mouthful. Anyway, I thought the teaser photos for this comeback build up a certain hype the musical teasers for Gold at least left me a bit with more to desire but thankfully this album is blessing us with a double title track – surely we will get another music video for Imaginary Friend.

I think my introduction paragraph already tells you how I feel about Gold. I am not sure how I like this song, I barely remembered it after the first listen now after a couple more it feels like an ITZY song but much more barren? Where are the melodies? What is this instrumental and I can’t say the hook is very catchy and the chorus feels even more empty. I swear if the girls didn’t have amazing vocals and could carry any song Gold would be an idea of a song. That being said I am sure Gold might grow on me but for now I don’t see the vision. This is totally different when it comes to Imaginary Friend because hello I am listening! This is a fantastic ITZY song, we get melodies, some groove and pop vibes we haven’t heard from the girls outside of b-sides for a while. I really enjoy Imaginary Friend and it went onto the playlist immediately. I think this is also a much more mature sound for the girls. I love it.

As for the mini album I love seeing us getting OT5 versions of the previous album and for the new songs the b-side that stood out to me is surprisingly not VAY which features SKZ’s Changbin but Supernatural. This one is a great one and shows off how fantastic ITZY’s b-sides can be. Definitely replay worthy and on the playlist already. Overall, time will tell how much I will grow to enjoy Gold but for now I prefer Imaginary Friend and the rest of the album which leaves me more than satisfied!
