ENHYPEN Leave Us With No Doubt

ENHYPEN return with the repackaged version of their second album Romance Untold and title song No Doubt.

Oh, I’ve been mentally preparing for this comeback because the concept seemed like it would be lethal. I was not wrong because the mature, dark but elegant aesthetics they have got going on this era just hit differently. I’ve enjoyed ENHYPEN’s XO a lot even though I ended up gravitating more toward Brought The Heat Back and Moonlight in the end. I feel like they do a really great combination of darker and lighter music, all while keeping their style and maintaining a great melody in their titles time after time. I also often feel like they’re greatly underappreciated considering they tend to bring back the old-school kind of feeling we’ve grown to love k-pop for and that’s something that I always see people yearning for. This new title track brings the same feelings so let’s get into it and review.

No Doubt, first of all, absolutely attacked me with that music video. The first verse does a solid job of luring us into the elegant atmosphere No Doubt tries to create but I have to say that the chorus somehow still caught me by surprise. I always trust ENHYPEN to keep their songs melodic (a trait we often underappreciate in modern k-pop), but No Doubt has a specific type of sound that speaks to me even more. It’s playful but mature, combining some serious r&b elements into the whole story, and ultimately creating such a good, catchy chorus that I genuinely had to come back and listen to it again right after the first chorus ended. The instrumental fits so well with their vocals and paired with the catchy post-chorus, No Doubt really has my full attention. The second verse being so groovy is an additional plus because it does a great job of keeping No Doubt‘s melodic momentum going. I feel like all elements of No Doubt, from the song itself to the music video, really complement each other, and maybe that’s the reason I’m really loving it right now. NIKI is also a very welcomed addition to the chorus line-up and I might even say his voice suits it the best. No Doubt is just my cup of tea and I know I will continue replaying it until I’m afraid I’ll get sick of it.

Since this is a repackaged album, we only get 2 additional new songs and I think Daydream definitely is a fun one. Listening to this album now fully I realized just how short the songs actually were – a crime against enjoyers of quality music. Jokes aside, I think it’s nice to listen to the repackaged because it brings both new and old feelings back. ENHYPEN did a great job this year and I have to give them all the compliments. I’m off to listen to No Doubt once again!

Lina: Almost lost my finger today otherwise I’d have written this review with Una. Anyway I am here to 9 finger type that this is a groovy bop and I really enjoy it! Noth the biggest fan of the new b-side tho sadly.
