Twice return to us with 14th mini album Strategy and title song of the same name.
As far as I know Megan is a big weeb so I think it really isn’t too far off for her to be features on a K-pop track. Did I think that collab would be happening with twice? Not really I was pretty surprised to see these two acts coming together for their first collaboration. This is actually the second time Twice and Megan are on a song together. The promo and concept photos for Strategy were definitely nice to see and stunning and the opening moments of Strategy also were burned into my brain. Well will all of that said let’s get into the review now shall we?
Strategy is definitely more of a Mega Thee Stallion song than a Twice song and her verse on it is also really long which is pretty uncommon for K-pop collabs. It feels like a true collaboration to me. However, I am used to a more mature and melodic sound from Twice nowadays and Strategy is definitely more hip-hop and attitude than a melodic and catchy song. Strategy has its moments and elements that are really nice and make the song whole I just think the song is a bit to barren to me at times. I really didn’t mind it on first listens but after a couple of listens I can tell that there is definitely something missing that makes this feel like a Twice comeback. I am sure this feels like a great achievement for the girls and Strategy is gonna see them succeed I will probably just gravitate to the b-sides on this album more.
Like immediately with Kiss My Troubles Away we are launched into familiar Twice land and the melody and vocals we are used to. This is fun, it’s upbeat and I am loving every second of it. I knew despite the title track not doing the most for me the rest of the album will definitely deliver. This song, Magical (this one giving me some Christmas vibes which I needed today) and Keeper are probably my favorite tracks on the mini they showcase why Twice has worked so long and I will never not enjoy their music. This is the Twice I love so dearly and that delivers quality music.
