With their new feature Uprising, the acclaimed South Korean filmmakers invite audiences to travel back to the Joseon era, the final imperial period in Korean history. The film examines how the chaos of war impacts the personal relationship between two childhood friends who become enemies. What is Uprising about?
Set in the Joseon era, during a tumultuous time in the aftermath of war, Uprising takes viewers on a gripping journey through the lives of two childhood friends turned adversaries: an enslaved person with remarkable martial prowess who struggles to break free from an unjust servitude, and his master, the scion of Joseon’s most influential military family. The film is produced and co-written by Park Chan-wook of Decision to Leave and Oldboy.
