GFRIEND Come Back To Us With Season of Memories

GFriend have gotten back together for their anniversary and bring us the magical Season of Memories.

GFRIEND are home! I think we were all so excited for this reunion to happen and it really brings a whole lot of nostalgia and emotions with it. We already had the opportunity to listen to Season of Memories prior to the release of the music video through their music show stages and promotional videos, but I think the music video will bring an additional emotional layer to this release. GFRIEND remain one of the musically strongest girl groups and it’s so nice to have them all back together for yet another musical adventure. Let’s dive into Season of Memories and show it some love in today’s review.

Season of Memories is a really sweet track, from the melody to the girls’ smooth and soothing vocals. I’ve had a few days to let Season of Memories simmer in my brain and I feel like it grew on me a bit – it definitely has that recognizable GFRIEND energy and melody, although I feel like the song would’ve been even better if it had a bit more of a synth-oriented instrumental, especially when it comes to how cohesive it would feel. However, Season of Memories is still a very solid track. Considering this is GFRIEND we are talking about, the track is absolutely led by their lovely vocals, as well as the unique emotion of nostalgia the girls bring with them this time around. I also really enjoy the song better with the music video, as I feel like it really completes the whole concept they were going for. At times it feels like the song is trying to break free from something restraining it, only managing to really get those energy levels up during the chorus, and I feel like this is my biggest let-down when it comes to Season of Memories – I wish it leaned more into this melody, offering some nice rhythm and pace changes. Is Season of Memories the best of GFRIEND? Absolutely not. However, it is a very sweet and dreamy track that celebrates their artistry and brings us all together for one joyful moment.

I am happy GFRIEND are back for this anniversary release and will hold it dear to my heart. Now let me go listen to Rough and Time for the Moon Night and cry.

Lina: Actually insane to me that HYBE did this after pledis disbanded these girls in such a tragic way. Anyway I am also glad it’s an actual music video and they all look so good and I just wish we never lost GFriend to begin with. This is a very GFriend song if I ever heard one and the melodies and vocals are crazy. It is very catchy and I wish them all the best.
