WEi return with their 7th mini album The Feelings and title song Not Enough.
If you’ve been following our blog, I’m sure you know that we always have a soft spot for WEi. Their fun, summer track Overdrive was one of my 2023 favourites, and while the group definitely deserves much better management and more frequent comebacks (considering how immensely talented the bunch is), I’m glad that we get to have any new music from them. They’re pretty strong both as a group, as well as soloists, so I think people really need to stop sleeping on their great discography. I was looking forward to this comeback a lot because I saw it was going to be a bit more emotionally driven and I knew that WEi would not disappoint. Let’s review Not Enough and the new mini-album.
Not Enough is fantastic. I am a sucker for emotional tracks that still keep the energy and melody high until the end and I think Not Enough does exactly that. The verses are very solid, promising a melodic explosion during the chorus and I’m happy to say that WEi delivered just that. The chorus is explosive in its melody and pushes the energy of the song to another level, reminding me a lot of old-school k-pop tracks that we so dearly yearn for these days. Boy groups making emotionally angsty music full of melody will never not be my favourite thing and I think I didn’t realize how much this style would suit WEi. The bridge is another fantastic element of the song, adding some additional energy to the instrumental and making the final chorus appear even better. Not Enough is more than a pleasant surprise for me on this cold Wednesday. Paired with the blue-toned music video, Not Enough is perfect for these winter blues and showcases once again how good of a team WEi are when they lean into melody.
When it comes to the mini album, we have already heard some of these songs since they already released them as Japanese tracks, but I have to say they are just as good in Korean. Fake Love continues to be such a hidden gem full of much-needed melody and groove from WEi. I’d definitely recommend checking it out because the Korean version is stunning and I’ll be adding it to my daily playlist as soon as I’m finished writing this. As an EP, the album feels really cohesive to me and manages to showcase the group’s abilities well.
WEi might be criminally underrated but we will never stop appreciating their great music.
