Aespa built its identity on a cold, metallic sound. Now, the group is turning that edge into something sharper, brighter, and made for summer.
Aespa is returning with its second full-length album, ‘LEMONADE,’ a release that marks both a musical shift and a new chapter in the group’s expanding universe.
At a press conference held on May 28 at Sofitel Ambassador Seoul, the members introduced the album as a fresh seasonal transformation. Instead of leaning fully into the intense “metallic” image often associated with aespa, the group described its new sound as something closer to a “sour” and “sweet” summer mood.
The album will be released on May 29 at 1 p.m. KST on major online music platforms, with the physical album arriving the same day.

Karina explained the concept in a simple phrase.
The group has often been described with the Korean expression “metallic taste,” referring to its powerful, cold, futuristic sound. This time, however, aespa is twisting that identity into what she called a “sour taste.”
According to Karina, ‘LEMONADE’ is an album designed to make summer feel cooler and more refreshing.
Winter added that fans had already given the album a new nickname after the highlight medley was released: “sour-sweet.”
That phrase captures the album’s direction well. aespa is not abandoning its sharp identity. Instead, the group is softening and brightening it with playful, kitschy, and energetic summer colors.
Two Title Tracks, Two Faces of aespa
One of the most important points of ‘LEMONADE’ is its double title-track structure. The album includes ‘WDA (Whole Different Animal)’ and ‘LEMONADE’ as its two main tracks, but the two songs show very different sides of the group.
Karina described ‘WDA’ as a song that represents a “transcendent being on another level.” The track carries a darker and harder texture, showing aespa’s powerful and solid image.
Giselle explained that while ‘WDA’ has a dark and overwhelming mood, ‘LEMONADE’ feels much more kitschy, playful, and mischievous.
That contrast appears to be the core of the album. aespa is presenting two versions of itself at the same time: one intense and futuristic, the other bright and rebellious.

The title track ‘LEMONADE’ uses a familiar idea in a bold aespa-style way.
Winter said the song is based on the saying, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” But in aespa’s version, the message becomes more direct and powerful: even when crisis or confusion arrives, the group will crush it, mix it, and turn it into something refreshing. Karina also described the song as carrying positive energy, saying it expresses the will to overcome hardship with a sour-sweet force.
That makes ‘LEMONADE’ more than just a summer song. It becomes a statement of attitude: aespa is not avoiding chaos. The group is turning it into fuel.

Since debut, aespa has built one of K-pop’s most recognizable fictional universes, centered around ideas such as KWANGYA, avatars, digital identity, and alternate realities.
With ‘LEMONADE’ and ‘WDA,’ that story is now moving into a new phase.
Karina said the two title tracks mark the beginning of a new worldview and that ‘WDA’ hints at Season 3 of aespa’s universe. That makes the comeback especially important for fans who follow not only the music, but also the group’s larger narrative. ‘LEMONADE’ is not just another album release. It is a reset button for aespa’s next era.
Pop-Ups and Global Events Expand the Comeback
To celebrate the release of ‘LEMONADE,’ aespa will open a pop-up store at IFC Mall in Yeouido, Seoul, from May 29 to June 7.
The comeback campaign will also expand across the Han River area, including events around Banpo Hangang Park’s Moonlight Rainbow Fountain and experience booths at Yeouido Hangang Park. The promotion will not be limited to Korea. Overseas pop-ups are also planned in Los Angeles, New York, and Shenzhen, with additional events scheduled to roll out in major cities such as Bangkok, Tokyo, and Taipei.
This global rollout shows how aespa’s comeback is being built not just as an album release, but as a full seasonal experience.
aespa’s Summer Era Begins With ‘LEMONADE’
With ‘LEMONADE,’ aespa is entering a summer comeback that feels different from its previous eras.
The group still has its futuristic edge, but this time, that edge is mixed with brightness, humor, and a refreshing sense of rebellion. ‘WDA’ keeps aespa’s darker power alive, while ‘LEMONADE’ turns chaos into something cool, sharp, and sweet. For fans, this comeback may feel like more than a new album. It is aespa showing that even its signature “metallic” sound can evolve into something unexpected.
This summer, aespa is not just serving lemonade. It is rewriting what a K-pop summer concept can taste like.
