This has been a great year for horror, from the monumental successes of "Backrooms" and "Obsession," to more high profile favorites like "The End of Oak Street" and "Resident Evil." We've seen independent productions make waves, established filmmakers making their comebacks, and much more. There have also been plenty of lackluster horror movies with just enough interesting ideas to strike a chord with audiences.
Case in point, "Other Mommy," a pretty okay horror film that features Jessica Chastain doing her best Pennywise. That's it, that's the whole movie. Adapting Josh Malerman's novel "Incidents Around the House," Rob Savage helms a stylish horror film that is carried entirely by Jessica Chastain's unhinged performance and a fair amount of violence and spooky stuff.
In spite of less than stellar reviews, "Other Mommy" was a hit with audiences. The movie rose above its abysmal Rotten Tomatoes and CinemaScore evaluation, audiences showed up to theaters, and "Other Mommy" became a box office hit. It's a testament to the marketing department and the trailers for the movie, which hooked audiences on the premise of Savage's film long before the reviews dropped.
Now that Halloween has passed, it's slim pickings for horror at the box office. The good news is that all the horror films released before Halloween are going to start being released on home video soon. Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that "Other Mommy" will release on digital platforms November 10, 2026 with a Blu-ray release expected later, on December 29, 2026.
Other Mommy brings deleted scenes to home video

One of the more intriguing and also confounding aspects of "Other Mommy" is its titular character, whose strange powers seem like Pennywise, Freddy Krueger, and a whole bunch of nightmares combined. It makes her a bit convoluted, sure, but also one of the most exciting horror villains in a while.
It remains to be seen if "Other Mommy" will warrant a sequel, or if Jessica Chastain would return to deliver more horrors. In the meantime, however, you can watch more than what was in theaters, because "Other Mommy" is bringing deleted scenes and other bonus features when it hits home video.
Here's the film's synopsis:
Jessica Chastain stars in a terrifying trip into the darkening world of a young girl, Bela, who forms a relationship with a disturbing entity in her home who looks uncannily like her own mother. 'Other Mommy' proves to be more than a mere figment of the girl's imagination as she becomes a sinister, manipulative presence determined to tear apart Bela's family.
