Oscar-nominated director Ridley Scott's latest movie will soon be available to watch at home. "The Dog Stars" sees Jacob Elordi and Margaret Qualley trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic landscape. It's based on Peter Heller's best-selling book of the same name. Now, following its theatrical run, Disney and 20th Century Studios have announced when audiences will have the opportunity to stream the film from the comfort of home.
"The Dog Stars" arrives on Digital and VOD on October 27, 2026, with the physical version of the film dropping a month later at the start of December. The digital iteration of the movie will be initially set at a premium VOD price (so, typically around $20 for a 48-hour rental) before eventually being discounted. It can be rented or purchased from digital retailers such as Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, the Google Play store, and Fandango at Home.
As of this writing, no official streaming release date has been set, but the movie will eventually make its way to Hulu and Disney+. In the meantime, those who missed this one in theaters will soon have the chance to pay to watch it without having to leave the couch. Indeed, seeing as "The Dog Stars" flopped at the box office, it's likely most people have been waiting to watch it at home. The synopsis for the film reads as follows:
Set in a world where survival is instinct, but humanity is a choice, "The Dog Stars" follows Hig (Jacob Elordi), a young pilot who, alongside military survivalist Bangley (Josh Brolin), has carved out an efficient but isolated homestead in a brutal post-apocalyptic world. When a mysterious radio transmission breaks through their solitude, Hig is compelled to venture into the unknown in search of the hope, connection, and humanity he still believes exists.
The Dog Stars will arrive on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD in December 2026

For physical media collectors out there, "The Dog Stars" also arrives on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on December 1, 2026. Yes, while it's more of a niche market than it used to be, DVD isn't as dead as you may think. And in an era when plenty of movies are only available to watch at home digitally, it's always nice to see one getting a physical media roll out.
Along with Jacob Elordi, Margaret Qualley, and Josh Brolin, the cast for "The Dog Stars" includes Guy Pearce ("Iron Man 3"), Allison Janney ("Mom"), and Benedict Wong ("Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness"). As for the physical media edition's bonus features? In addition to a featurette titled "The Making of 'The Dog Stars'" (described as "an intimate look behind the scenes of the film"), there will be several deleted scenes that didn't make the movie's theatrical cut. Those include:
-
Jasper's Funeral
-
Hig Mourns
-
Welcome Dinner
-
Roaches' Warning
-
Hig & Cima
-
A Conversation With Pops
-
Airport Alternate Exit
