Those of us hoping to travel to Middle-earth for a little tourism and some innocent sight-seeing probably could've picked a better time for that. J.R.R. Tolkien's famous fantasy realm is usually a beautiful, breathtaking place filled with wonders and delights beyond our imagination ... but, as of the chaotic time period of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power," things are getting awfully dark and depressing. To wit, Season 2 left us on the verge of all-out war. Charlie Vickers' great deceiver Sauron had finally been unmasked, his plans to gift rings of power to all the free peoples of the land had (mostly) gone off without a hitch, and our heroes were left reeling after a stunning defeat.
As Season 3 picks up, things are more dire and violent than ever. Our first look at the return of "The Rings of Power" at this year's San Diego Comic-Con teased Sauron's creation of the fabled One Ring, the immensely powerful weapon that we know will go on to play a central role during the events of "The Lord of the Rings" hundreds and hundreds of years down the line. In the here and now, however, the Dark Lord's scheme to enslave every corner of the land is only just beginning.
Prime Video has now released a new, full-length trailer for the upcoming third season and, yeah, it's as ominous as it gets. Sauron's armies are on the move, his fearsome Ringwraiths are causing all sorts of trouble and mayhem in his name, and each and every one of our do-gooders appears to be completely overmatched. War has finally arrived in Middle-earth, and it's going to be spectacular to watch it all go down. Check out the footage above!
The Rings of Power Season 3 teases a similar scope and scale as the Lord of the Rings movies

Ever since its debut, it's felt like "The Rings of Power" has existed in the shadow of its cinematic predecessors, but could that finally be about to change? In all fairness, Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy is an extraordinarily tough act to follow, and showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay have embraced the challenge thus far. The first two seasons of the Prime Video prequel series have told a similarly sprawling story with an ensemble cast of the biggest names in all of Middle-earth history. But, based on what we've seen of Season 3, that might have only been an appetizer to this year's main course.
Just look at all the various narrative threads that appear to be coming together in "The Rings of Power." Sauron is busy figuring out how to use what the Elves inadvertently taught him in order to forge the One Ring, but he's also gathering every possible ally he can find — whether it be armies of Orcs, his trusty Ringwraiths on horseback (here known in their early form as Nazgnagôl), or even the fiery Balrog, voiced by none other than Simon Pegg. Meanwhile, characters like Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), Elrond (Robert Aramayo), the long-missing Celeborn (Jamie Campbell Bower), Gandalf (Daniel Weyman), and more are scrambling to mount a resistance of their own. The deck is stacked against them, but the heroes of Middle-earth have always found a way to overcome hopeless odds.
They'll have to pull off their greatest magic trick yet here, but something tells us it'll be well worth seeing how it all unfolds. Season 3 of "The Rings of Power" premieres November 11, 2026, on Prime Video.
